PATIENT CENTERED MANAGEMENT OF ANTERIOR SHOULDER INSTABILITY

Summary

Shoulder instability is a complex condition that significantly affects numerous athletes, influenced by a combination of objective anatomical structures and subjective factors like kinesiophobia (fear of movement). This thesis aims to contribute insights into improving patient-centered management of anterior shoulder instability, with a particular emphasis on the psychological impact of the physical trauma resulting from primary or recurrent shoulder dislocation. The research investigates patient perspectives regarding treatment, identifies prognostic factors for failing to return to sport following surgery, and evaluates surgical options for recurrent instability. A significant focus is placed on diagnosing and treating fear of movement, including the development of a modified diagnostic tool, the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia in Shoulder Instability (TSK-SI), and the assessment of fear-reducing rehabilitation protocols.
