General
Please check that each file you submit meets the requirements set out in the checklist. Would you like us to prepare something for you? If so, please let us know in good time, as this always takes a few working days. Please do get in touch with us!
Please submit the files using the following file naming convention:

- [Ordernummer]_thesis_V0.pdf
- [Ordernummer]_cover_V0.pdf
- [Ordernummer]_propositions_V0.pdf
If you make changes to your files, always update the file’s version number so that it is always clear which is the most recent version of the file and whether any changes have been made to it.
Upload the files and data to the PM App.
Interior
Has the page order for the ‘preliminary work’ been followed correctly? In most cases, it is as follows:
I. (French) Title page
II. Colophon page
III. Thesis page
IV. Thesis committee
√ Have you created a PDF file of the interior?
√ Do all chapters start on a right-hand page?
√ Are the page numbers centred or aligned to the margins? (on a left-hand page on the left, and on a right-hand page on the right).
√ Are the headers on the outer margins? (on the left on a left-hand page and on the right on a right-hand page).
√ Are the white margins at least 15 mm?
√ Are all the figures of sufficient quality? (Zoom in to 400% in the PDF: if the image quality isn’t good, it won’t look good in print).
√ Is a 3 mm bleed required and has it been added? (Only required if any part of the design extends beyond the page; see Chapter 4 of our manual).
√ Is the file the correct size? (Standard 17×24 cm)
√ Is the black text 100% black? (Sometimes text is made up of four CMYK colours).
√ Is ProefschriftMaken || www.proefschriftmaken.nl listed in the colophon?
√ Are there any rotated pages in the PDF?
√ Are all the fonts embedded? (See the manual from page 16 onwards for instructions)
Propositions
√ Have you created a PDF file of the propositions?
√ Are the dimensions of the layouts correct? (standard A5) If you are unable to resize the file, we can resize or crop it for you to 14.8 cm x 21 cm.
√ Is the text 100% black? (Sometimes text is made up of four CMYK colours.)
√ Have crop marks been added if the document is not in the finished size?
Cover
In the link at the bottom, we have included a working drawing of a cover on the last page. You can see what this file should look like.
√ Have you created a PDF file of the cover?
√ Is the cover of sufficient quality? (Zoom in to 400% in the PDF: if the image quality isn’t good, it won’t look good in print).
√ Has a 3 mm bleed been added to all sides of the cover?
√ Are the cover’s dimensions correct?
Please note: you are responsible for requesting and processing the spine thickness. You can request this once the paper type and total number of pages are known. We’d be happy to help you with this.
Invitation
√ Have you created a PDF file of the invitation?
√ Is the quality of the invitation good enough? (Zoom in to 400% in the PDF: if the image quality isn’t good, it won’t look good in print).
√ Has a 3 mm bleed been added to all sides of the invitation?
√ Are the dimensions of the invitation correct? (standard 7 x 23 cm)
Adobe products
Once you have created your thesis in Adobe InDesign, you can use this TUTORIAL to export it to a PDF with the correct settings. If you follow these steps, all the images and fonts used will be embedded automatically.
If anything goes wrong
If you are unable to…
√ If the page numbers are positioned correctly, we can adjust this for you. You must ensure that you send a PDF without page numbers, along with your requirements for the page number layout (element package).
√ If the headers and footers are positioned correctly, we can adjust this for you. Please ensure you send a PDF without headers or footers, along with your requirements for the layout of the headers and footers (element package).
√ We can resize the file to the correct format; we can scale or crop the file for you to 17×24 cm. Starting from A4 size, we can then reduce the entire file to 81 per cent of its original size. The number of pages will remain the same; it will simply be slightly smaller. Please ensure that the font size in the A4 file is at least 12 points.
√ To convert the text in the file to 100% black, we can convert the text in the PDF to 100% black.
√ We can rotate the pages and convert the rotated pages in the PDF to portrait orientation for you.
√ We can add cutting marks to the file for you.
