Deze dynamiek dwingt kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen (mkb) om voortdurend hun productiemethoden en bedrijfsmodellen (BM's) te innoveren door de introductie van technologie\u00ebn om concurrerend te blijven en te overleven. Ondanks het erkende belang van technologische transformatie blijft er een kloof in het begrijpen van hoe het mkb dit proces effectief kan beheren.\n\nTegen deze achtergrond beoogt dit proefschrift de overkoepelende onderzoeksvraag te beantwoorden: Hoe kan een integratief raamwerk voor het technologische transformatieproces worden ontwikkeld om de organisatorische transformatie die het mkb ondergaat bij de introductie van nieuwe technologie\u00ebn te ondersteunen en te begeleiden? Dit onderzoek is gestructureerd rond de volgende drie specifieke onderzoeksvragen (RV's):\n\nRV1: Wat is de stand van de techniek in de literatuur over technologische transformatie in het mkb?\n\nRV2: Hoe assimileren agri-food mkb-bedrijven in de EU nieuwe technologie\u00ebn, hoe innoveren zij hun bedrijfsmodellen, hoe nemen zij prestaties waar en welke omstandigheden be\u00efnvloeden hun transformatieniveaus en prestatiepercepties?\n\nRV3: Hoe kan een conceptueel raamwerk worden gestructureerd met relevante concepten, fasen en instrumenten om het technologische transformatieproces weer te geven en mkb-bedrijven te helpen bij het begrijpen en ondergaan ervan, en in welke mate valideert de toepassing ervan de logische samenhang, verbetert het het begrip van het proces en onthult het voorheen niet ge\u00efdentificeerde inzichten?\n\nIn hoofdstuk 2 onderzoekt het proefschrift de huidige stand van de literatuur over technologische transformatie in het mkb, waarbij RV1 wordt behandeld. Via een systematisch literatuuronderzoek van 165 peer-reviewed artikelen worden de belangrijkste thema's en patronen in dit gefragmenteerde en multidisciplinaire veld ge\u00efdentificeerd. Het hoofdstuk schetst de kernelementen van technologische transformatie, waaronder drijfveren, barri\u00e8res, enablers, controles, processen en uitkomsten, en integreert deze in een visueel en sequentieel raamwerk. De bevindingen benadrukken de onderlinge verbondenheid van technologie-assimilatie en bedrijfsmodelinnovatie (BMI) en bieden hier inzichten in. Het hoofdstuk sluit af met het voorstellen van vijf onderzoeksrichtingen voor verdere verkenning in de volgende hoofdstukken.\n\nHoofdstuk 3 verkent de technologische transformatie van agri-food mkb-bedrijven in de EU en behandelt RV2 door 39 casestudies te analyseren, waarbij de focus ligt op hun uitkomsten en de omstandigheden die deze vormen. Het identificeert verschillende patronen van technologische transformatietrajecten verdeeld over 10 mkb-groepen, evenals patronen in technologie-assimilatie, BMI en prestaties. De bevindingen laten zien hoe mkb-bedrijven hun bedrijfsmodellen aanpassen (inclusief de be\u00efnvloede waarde-elementen) en technologie\u00ebn assimileren (inclusief de gevolgde strategie\u00ebn en de bereikte vaardigheid), terwijl de technologische, organisatorische en omgevingsfactoren die zowel het transformatieproces als de uitkomsten bepalen, worden belicht. Het hoofdstuk benadrukt het belang van het afstemmen van technologie-assimilatie, BMI en de bredere zakelijke context om prestaties te verbeteren.\n\nVoortbouwend op inzichten uit de hoofdstukken 2 en 3 stelt hoofdstuk 4 een conceptueel raamwerk voor dat is ontworpen om mkb-bedrijven door het technologische transformatieproces te leiden, waarbij RV3 wordt behandeld. Dit raamwerk is ontwikkeld via een explorerende conceptuele ontwikkelingsaanpak die een systematische en iteratieve literatuuranalyse combineert met kwalitatieve empirische validatie. Het raamwerk is toegepast op drie pilot agri-food mkb-cases, waarmee de logische samenhang en praktische toepasbaarheid zijn aangetoond. These dynamics compel small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to continuously innovate their production methods and business models (BMs) with the introduction of technologies to remain competitive and survive. Through a systematic review of 165 peer-reviewed papers, it identifies key themes and patterns in this fragmented and multidisciplinary field. The chapter outlines the core elements of technological transformation, including drivers, barriers, enablers, controls, processes, and outcomes, and integrates these into a visual and sequential framework.
